Sometimes, ya just gotta.

Ok, no more whining. I got hurt. I’ll get fixed and bounce back. Tiggers always do.

I got the pleasure of spectating at a couple races and hanging with my friends just not doing a heck of a lot ‘cept supporting them.
I went to the Broken Spoke beat down in Rhinelander and had a great time. Watched some kickass riding and racing, went for some long walks in the woods checkin it out. Drank some fine beers and also some (as Bubba calls em) shim beers. Those are the ones that ya drink between a good beer and a bad beer … a shim. LOL I liked that one. Then after some of those nasty work thingy-jobber obligations, I went with Dano and Chris (Chris on the left, Dano on the right) to the Velo races for their final night of left-turn-go-fast racing. More cheering, supporting, and beer. No shims this time. It was right to the bad beer. Oh and these freakishly awesome pumpernickle (you spell it if’n you don’t like how I did)  rye pretzel chips and jalapeno cheese crackerz. Yeehaw! but they were awesome!
So here’s some pictures at the Velodrome and some more from the Smokin Spoke beat down race. Loook at ‘em … or else.
I think I can enjoy a little downtime from racing just to spend some extra time with the family and my buds. Slowing down isn’t so bad.

Sometimes, ya just gotta go with it.

Marcus Welby, MD. Best damn DR ever! … or not.

Filed under: Shake n bake, baby! — fattires @ 11:08 pm

Well, the word is in. I go next Friday for surgery.
It is worse (yet better) than expected.
There are no significant tears in the muscles. Which is good.
There are 3 torn tendons. Which is bad. example image here (this is a left shoulder, mine is the right …
Tendons heal better than muscle and with less scar tissue. Which is good.
Two of the main tendons that make up the front and back of the rotator cuff have complete (Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus) tears from the bone and retracted about 3/4 of an inch for both. The main tendon from my bicep to the top of the Humerus is separated and shifted about 3/4 of an inch medially(toward my body) and trapped under the subscapularis tendon. I also have a small tear in the pectoralis muscle that he feels will heal on its own. Too much technical crap. Shitz tore and busticated and needs sum fixin.
Doc sez he has to filet me open instead of scope cuz is too involved. He will put an anchor and suture in to pull the bicep back in place, then drill a tunnel from front to back for the two other tendons then fish them with wire (kevlar I think) and then pull them back into place. Sounds like mostly Voodoo magic to me.
He feels I should be 100% again. Which is good.
He thinks it could be 6 months to a year. Which is bad.
Oh well. If I don’t have the surgery I will never work as a firefighter again as I have pretty much healed as good as it will get, according to this Dr. So … my option was to sign the papers and resign myself to a long recovery and get back to my chosen vocation.
I’ll keep you in the loop since I’ll have lots o time on my hand (back to one-handed typing by next week)
laters!

How to become a spectator.

Filed under: Shake n bake, baby! — fattires @ 10:46 am

Step 1.) Become old and fragile.
Step 2.) Go to Ozzfest with a bunch of kids half your age.
Step 3.) Walk within 100′ of a Mosh Pit.
Step 4.) Trip, fall, dislocate shoulder.
Step 5.) Repeat if necessary until convinced it hurts too much to ride your bike.

Well, I completed those steps in order and am now a spectator for the remainder of this season.
The only saving grace is, I made it back to the festival in time to catch Ozzie’s show. AND I can say I am probably the only person who was there legally bombed out of my gourd on Morphine Cool.

Oh well, I should be able to get some good pictures anyway.
